Early Friday morning, a large apartment fire in southwest Charlotte has left several families without a home. According to WSOC-TV, the blaze that caused considerable upheaval for many was reported to have begun around 2:30 a.m. on Holliswood Court, which is situated close to South Tryon Street.
Despite the ferocity of the flames, which were still visibly consuming the top of the building as first responders arrived, a cadre of more than 60 firefighters managed to bring the two-alarm fire under control within 60 minutes. As detailed in the report by WXII 12, the emergency response involved a strategic hands-on contest against a conflagration that was bent on destruction, dealing with both heavy smoke and the stubborn blaze.
The aftermath of the inferno saw 24 apartment units damaged, collating a significant list of material loss and displacement. According to WXII 12, it was a candle left burning unattended on a balcony that set the stage for the furious engagement that came afterwards. Six people required treatment at the scene for minor injuries, one of whom was a firefighter battling the relentless destroyer.
