Early Friday morning, an allegedly stolen vehicle led Ceres and Turlock police on a chase that spilled through the streets of the Ceres area and involved dangerous maneuvers, ultimately ending with an arrest. Ceres Police Department reported the pursuit initiated when Officer Lord-Huff located the vehicle at approximately 05:17am near E Hatch Rd and Mitchell Rd. After an attempted traffic stop, the suspect attempted to evade police, setting off a pursuit, as per Ceres Police Department's Facebook post.
The chase continued to extend into the city of Turlock, with officers implementing a PIT maneuver that failed to stop the suspect, later identified as Chhay Hisocanphaktra. Police say the suspect managed to briefly regain vehicle control, driving through a residential front yard before reentering the road and ramming into a police vehicle in an attempt to potentially escape custody. Hisocanphaktra, a 41-year-old Stockton man with a record of supervision following prison time, was eventually detained after his vehicle was disabled by law enforcement.
According to the same Facebook update by Ceres Police Department, Hisocanphaktra's record check revealed that he is currently under Post-Release Community Supervision from Orange County. He's been booked into Stanislaus County Jail under several felony charges, including the alleged theft of the vehicle in question and two charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
There were no reported injuries among law enforcement during the ordeal. The Ceres Police Department used the same online statement to express their gratitude towards The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department and The Turlock Police Department, who assisted during the incident. The collaboration between the involved agencies was crucial to bring the pursuit to a safe and relatively swift conclusion.
