D.C. residents can expect to bask in sunny skies today with temperatures climbing to a high near 91 degrees, as reported by the National Weather Service. However, the respite from rain won't last long as there's a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms creeping in after 4 a.m. tonight, with an anticipated low around 74 degrees.
The weather pattern is expected to shift quickly tomorrow, with the capital forecasted to be fully engulfed by rain. According to the National Weather Service's forecast for tomorrow, "a chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 7am" is predicted. Calm winds are expected to turn east later in the day. D.C. is preparing for an 80% chance of precipitation, which could result in up to half an inch of new rainfall.
Tomorrow night will likely remain unsettled with an 80% chance of continued showers and thunderstorms before giving way to a partly cloudy Saturday. While the high will soar to near 92, the chance of precipitation drops, thankfully, to 40%. Saturday night's forecast speaks of a 30% chance of thunderstorms before 8 p.m., then moving to a partly cloudy night with a low around 75 degrees.
Looking ahead, the heat is about to strike back. Sunday through Tuesday promises a dry spell with oppressive heat as sunny skies dominate and the mercury is expected to push the scales to near 100 degrees. The National Weather Service warns nighttime won't offer much relief with lows hovering in the mid-to-high 70s. Wednesday heralds the chance for a return of showers and thunderstorms, with yet another hot day peaking near 99 degrees and odds of rain sitting at 40%.
