An appalling incident has shaken Marin County after a hired caretaker violently assaulted his elderly patient, who struggles with memory conditions, and her adult daughter. On Sunday evening, Yumi Zingkhai, 23, of Rohnert Park, was reported to have committed rape against the elderly woman; when her daughter intervened, Zingkhai attacked her as well, ultimately resulting in his arrest on multiple charges, including rape, attempted murder, and elder abuse, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.
The series of horrifying events unfolded when the victim's daughter arrived at the home and caught Zingkhai in the act. He then grabbed her by the throat and choked her until she passed out. She regained consciousness in the kitchen and was threatened with a knife for nearly two hours before managing to persuade her attacker to leave. In the aftermath, Zingkhai informed his girlfriend of his suicidal statements and, while driving back to the scene with her, began assaulting her and threw her out of the moving car when she attempted to call for help.
Law enforcement, already at the victim's residence conducting their investigation, were present when Zingkhai arrived and saw the officers, prompting him to try to flee the scene. He was quickly apprehended after a pursuit, and Zingkhai now faces a litany of charges, with the Marin County Sheriff's Office citing specific codes including Rape (261(A) (1) PC), Attempted Murder (664 187 PC), and Elder Abuse Against a Dependent Adult (386 (B)(1) PC), to name a few.
Zingkhai's list of charges does not end there. He continues with Kidnapping (207 PC), Lewd and Lascivious Act by Caretaker on a Dependent Adult (288 (C) (2) PC), Battery with Serious Bodily Injury (243 (D)), Robbery (211 PC), False Imprisonment (236 PC), and more. These charges capture a breadth of violations that shook the local community. Now, he's being held without bail, pending arraignment, reflecting the gravity of his alleged actions.
