In a recent string of property crimes that unsettled the Brookland neighborhood, the Metropolitan Police Department has reported a breakthrough. Between early June and the end of the month, residents in Northeast D.C. were targeted by a burglar who accessed multiple buildings, often forcefully, and removed valuables from common areas such as lobbies and package rooms.
The suspect linked to these incidents, 61-year-old Ronald McFadden, was nabbed on July 1, sources confirm. McFadden, a resident of Northeast, faces numerous charges including burglary and theft. Each crime appears, to have been carried out with a similar modus operandi, suggesting a pattern of premeditated thefts rather than random acts of opportunity.
Details from the MPD reveal a list of dates and locations where McFadden's alleged burglaries took place. They span from the 700 block of Monroe Street, Northeast, where several burglaries were reported, to an incident of theft on the 2900 block of 12th Street, Northeast. Each of these crimes left the neighborhood on high alert and culminated in an investigation that resulted in McFadden's arrest.
McFadden's arrest, therefore, comes as a relief to the community. He is currently awaiting further legal proceedings relating to these charges.
