Delaware County authorities are currently seeking two armed individuals in connection with a brazen midday robbery of a Brinks armored truck in Chester, officials confirmed. The incident occurred near an AutoZone store on 9th Avenue and the Avenue of the States around 12:15 p.m., as reported by CBS News Philadelphia. The suspects, wielding long guns, allegedly assaulted the truck's driver, making off not only with an undisclosed sum of money but also the driver's firearm.
Further details released through the investigation note that the assailants fled the scene in a Nissan Pathfinder, described by officials to have black trim, a roof rack, and showed with black rims. The vehicle, bearing a laminated paper tag, was last captured by surveillance cameras with the Pennsylvania registration LLN-2328. NBC Philadelphia reports that the vehicle is known to frequent areas in Darby Township and the 400 block of 9th Street in Chester City.
This recent heist follows a disturbing trend of robberies targeting armored vehicles in the region. Just a few months ago, three individuals held up an armored truck in the West Oak Lane neighborhood of Philadelphia, wherein the guard was not only assaulted but also disarmed and robbed of $2,500, as 6abc reflected on similar occurrences over the past year. In yet another incident last October, a Brinks driver was injured and robbed by two assailants during a delivery at a South Philadelphia Bank of America.
The authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and have disseminated surveillance photos of the suspects from the current case. The Delaware County District Attorney's Office is coordinating efforts to capture the individuals responsible for the robbery, emphasizing the serious nature of these crimes as they put community safety at risk. The Delaware County DA's office has not disclosed the amount stolen in the latest robbery.
