In the early hours of June 26, a collision at the intersection of North Pecos Road and East Bonanza Road involved three vehicles, wherein, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s (LVMPD), the driver of a 2017 Kia Soul ran a red light and caused the tragic events.
The LVMPD identified the driver of the Kia as 18-year-old Dior Jenkins, who is now facing charges for his role in the hit-and-run after fleeing the scene along with other passengers. Tragically, one passenger, 19-year-old Kobe Boyd, was ejected and seriously injured, currently battling for his life at the University Medical Center Trauma Center. To further quickly apprehend individuals involved, LVMPD urges anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers, promising anonymity and potential financial rewards for tips leading to a felony arrest or indictment.
Apart from Boyd, two other passengers, both minors at the age of 17, were also in the Kia Soul, with one sustaining life-threatening injuries. The second vehicle, a 2017 Honda Pilot driven by 38-year-old Rubi Maldanado, was hit by the Kia while traveling on a green signal, resulting in Maldanado being hospitalized and later released after treatment. The third vehicle, a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by 59-year-old Edinson Kawanishi, remained at the scene after being struck by debris from the initial collision.
The LVMPD has taken Jenkins into custody at the Clark County Detention Center and is pressing charges related to the incident.
