
A 19-year-old male victim was pronounced deceased at Atrium Health University after suffering a gunshot wound on Tuesday evening, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. The incident, which took place in the 6100 block of Carver Boulevard, is now the subject of an active homicide investigation by University City Division detectives. The dead has been identified as Marquez Alexander Summers, and his family has been notified, as confirmed by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department website.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police arrived at the scene shortly after the victim was taken to the hospital on July 9, 2024, around 5:29 p.m. A combination of Crime Scene Search personnel and Homicide detectives worked alongside, recording the tragic tableau, collecting physical evidence and piecing together the moments that culminated in Summers' untimely death. Preliminary investigation suggests that the confrontation occurred at the aforementioned Carver Boulevard location.
Further collaborative efforts between the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Concord Police Department have led to the rapid identification of a suspect in the murder of Summers. Demarius Jeprese Poole, 22, is now facing an arrest warrant in connection with the homicide. Details concerning the motive and circumstances of the altercation, however, remain scant as inquiries continue.
