Thousand Oaks was the scene of a deputy-involved shooting incident early on the morning of June 30, when a man allegedly holding a knife and a bow-like object was shot by a Ventura County deputy. The incident occurred near E. Avenida De Los Arboles & Erbes Rd at approximately 6:50 AM, as reported by Hoodline. The man, identified as 37-year-old Adan Perez Hernandez, was noticeably injured and taken to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition.

According to a release by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office shared on a social media platform, the deputies had made contact with what they deemed a "suspicious pedestrian," which quickly escalated after Hernandez failed to follow orders to drop his weapon. "The incident began when deputies made contact with a 37-year-old man who was observed holding a knife," the office commented, as stated by Hoodline. This forced one officer to discharge their firearm, an action that the department claims was necessary given the peril presented.

In the aftermath of the incident, Hernandez was arrested on July 23, with the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office stating, "Hernandez was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, on a felony warrant for Brandishing a Deadly Weapon at an officer and Resisting an Executive Officer." His bail was set at $50,000.00, and an arraignment was held on July 24, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Gerardo Cruz at 805-384-4726.
