The officers, who were part of the Southeast Division, returned fire, but it remains unknown whether the suspect was hit. After exchanging gunfire, the suspect fled in the sedan and was last observed heading north on Broadway from 135th Street. In their pursuit, the police lost sight of the suspect, sparking an ongoing search for both the individual and the vehicle. "Investigators still have body-worn video to review as well as other video and physical evidence to examine," as stated by LAPD PIO.
One officer sustained a graze wound to the forehead, while a second officer was injured by glass shards during the confrontation. Both officers were transported to the local hospital where they were listed in stable condition. ABC7 reported that AIR7's overhead footage captured numerous police vehicles at the scene and crime-scene tape restricting access to a significant portion of the street following the incident.
