Upon their arrival, officers found that at least two individuals had broken into a residence. Confronted by the homeowner, one suspect assailed the homeowner with pepper spray – prompting the homeowner, armed with a semi-automatic handgun, to fire several rounds and strike one of the intruders. The LAPD press release stated that the suspect was later transported to a hospital and is now in critical, but stable condition. Following the incident, the second suspect managed to escape, fleeing to a getaway vehicle.
The suspect who was wounded and taken into custody has been identified as 35-year-old Chucks Chukwudi of Los Angeles, as per the LAPD. As the investigation continues, Chukwudi will face criminal charges concerning the home invasion, which the detectives from North Hollywood believe is connected to other burglaries in the area.
