
In a report from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department, a 23-year-old Van Nuys resident, Juan Chavez Mendez was arrested for felony reckless boating under the influence following a collision on the Colorado River. According to the official statement, the incident occurred near the 800 Block of Beach Drive in Needles, CA, on the evening of June 29, 2024. Deputies from the Colorado River Station Marine Enforcement Unit responded to the situation at approximately 7:30 p.m. after receiving a report about the boat accident.
The investigation revealed that Chavez Mendez had been operating a personal watercraft (PWC) eastbound on the river when he crashed into another PWC. The rider of the second watercraft sustained injuries and received medical treatment on the scene. It was further discovered, allegedly, that Chavez Mendez was intoxicated during the incident. Deputies proceeded to immediately arrest Mendez, and he was transported to the Colorado River Station jail for booking. His bail was set at $30,000.
As of now, Chavez Mendez is still in custody, with an impending court hearing yet to occur. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department continues its investigation into the incident. Corporal B.
