Warren police are actively investigating a disturbing case of animal cruelty after a dog was found with multiple stab wounds last Sunday near the Warren Manor Apartments. As reported by FOX 2 Detroit, responding to a distressing 911 call, police discovered a male husky bleeding and injured. According to the caller, the dog appeared to have been stabbed and a knife was briefly lodged in its body.
The husky, identified as white and brown, was transported quickly to a veterinarian hospital where it was confirmed that the dog endured three stab wounds. Despite the violent act, the veterinary staff expect the injured dog to fully recover, an outcome that has resonated with the public and urged authorities to intensify the quest for the perpetrator. "Anybody that would mistreat an animal like that needs to be brought to justice," Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton told WWJ Newsradio.
On Tuesday, the dog's owner came forward to Warren police. She reported her missing Husky and suggested the possibility that her pet might have been the victim of the stabbing. In a statement obtained by The Detroit News, the owner acknowledged the dog's history of aggressive behavior towards people, including herself, and confirmed that the dog had been lost for several days prior to the incident. Upon examination of her apartment by police officers, no evidence correlating to the act of cruelty was found. Investigators have attempted to talk to residents of Warren Manor, but few have volunteered information.
As the investigation continues, authorities are seeking to meticulously review video surveillance footage from around the complex. Previously unable to be accessed, the management of Warren Manor has been cooperative with the investigation. Meanwhile, the Warren police stress the seriousness of violence against animals and assert proper protocols should be followed when dealing with any potentially dangerous animals. "If this is determined to be a criminal act the perpetrator could be charged with a felony," Lt John Gajewski, Warren police, stated to FOX 2 Detroit, highlighting the gravity of such offenses. The department is urging anyone with information to directly come forward to assist in the investigation.
