West Philadelphia became the epicenter of violent disturbances in the late hours of Monday when, in two separate incidents, two men were critically injured by gunfire. The first event unfolded just before midnight in the 6200 block of Arch Street, near Hirst Street, where officers found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg. According to 6abc, the victim was in and out of consciousness and was discovered with injuries inflicted, police believe, by at least two shooters. Investigators recovered casings from what appeared to be a rifle, and a semi-automatic handgun at the scene.
Shortly thereafter, a second attack occurred less than a mile away, at the intersection of Arch and Hirst streets. A 30-year-old man sustained a gunshot wound to the torso after, police say, 11 shots were discharged from two different semi-automatic weapons. "The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition," as reported by Fox29. Both shootings have kept the motives shrouded in mystery, and authorities are currently examining nearby surveillance footage to garner evidence that could illuminate the circumstances of these violent acts.
Amid these incidents, a third man, aged 32, walked into a Philadelphia hospital at about 12:31 a.m. on Tuesday, suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. This case, however, is marked by uncertainty as officials, have yet to determine the precise location where this shooting occurred. "This man was placed in stable condition," NBC Philadelphia indicates, noting the ongoing status of the police investigation.
