In a ceremony somewhat short of pomp and circumstance but not lacking in heartfelt appreciation, the White Settlement Police Department recently honored Corporal Laura Gonzalez with the COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD BAR. Gonzalez, who primarily serves as a detective and department spokesperson, has demonstrated outstanding commitment and performance in community engagement, according to the White Settlement Police Department.
Gonzalez's influence, far exceeding the limited scope her badge suggests, has been pivotal in organizing major community initiatives. She spearheaded the planning of events such as National Night Out, and the Back the Boo Trunk or Treat, not to mention her involvement with the Take Me Home Program, and numerous back-to-school and quarterly community events. The impact of her dedication extends beyond the detective's desk, organically weaving her commitment into the community's narrative.
The National Association of Town Watch recognized the White Settlement Police Department's National Night Out events with consecutive awards in 2022 and 2023, a direct reflection of Gonzalez's leadership and dedication. Her efforts haven't just painted a colorful picture at town events, they've shaped a safer, more connected community.
In recognition of her work, Chief of Police Christopher Cook enthused, as per the White Settlement Police Department, "Please join me in congratulating Corporal Gonzalez for the excellent work that she does for our department and community". Under her guidance, her department, where she also assists with the Public Safety Cadets teen mentoring program, has blossomed into an example of how police and the public can actively create a shared sense of responsibility and belonging.
