Detroit authorities have announced a $10,000 reward for information that could help solve the case of a mass shooting that occurred at a block party in the city's east side last month. WWJ Newsradio reports that the incident took place near the intersection of Reno Street and Rossini Drive, where two people were killed and 19 others were injured.
Though the victims of the shooting have been released from the hospital, as ClickOnDetroit details, the shooters remain at large. The Detroit Police Department has released photos of several persons of interest and is asking for the public's assistance in identifying them. Captured on camera as they approached the party just before the shooting, these individuals are believed to be crucial to solving the case.
The shooting, which was confirmed gang-related by the Detroit Police Department, took place during an illegal street party. According to the statement from Assistant Detroit Police Chief Charles Fitzgerald, as per WWJ Newsradio, one of the deceased was the intended target. Unfortunately, other victims got caught in the crossfire.
The police have faced scrutiny over their response time to the incident, leading to an internal investigation as well. While engrossed in resolving another illegal block party, it took officers approximately 10 minutes to arrive on the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls, one of which captured the sound of gunshots, as was described in the video shared by the police department. Along with the suspects, nine guns were recovered from the scene, with one identified as stolen and another modified illegally with a Glock switch.
