Earlier this week, a massive year-long ATF operation culminated in a mix of arrests and a fatal shooting on the Northeast Side. The initiative, dubbed "Operation Texas Kill Switch," has resulted in 12 individuals being taken into custody, charged with federal firearms offenses ranging from possession of stolen firearms to illegal dealing in weapons without a license. According to FOX San Antonio, the raids across Texas, spanning from San Antonio to McAllen, targeted those accused of turning stolen guns into machine guns.
The incident, which involved a lethal confrontation between a suspect and an ATF agent, occurred during a pre-dawn raid at Merida Apartment Homes. Officials have since identified the deceased as 22-year-old Sina Chohili Sobby, who was to allegedly have pointed a gun at the agent enforcing the warrant, promptingly the officer to fatally shoot him. Further details about the incident and the other arrests were reported by News 4 San Antonio, highlighting that the operation was part of a court-authorized "knock and announce" federal arrest warrant.
Among the weapons recovered in the bust, the ATF has confirmed that six were used in shootings in the San Antonio area. The identities of those arrested span a wide age range, from 18 to 43, illustrating a diverse network of individuals implicated in the illegal firearms trade.
As the investigation presses on, the ATF has not yet disclosed further specifics on the involvement of the other 12 arrestees. These individuals now face serious federal charges which, unchecked, would have allowed them to continue to effectively contribute in arming the streets with illegal conversions of firearms into something closely resembling machine guns.
