A recent crash in Colorado Springs led to a significant environmental hazard when a truck's punctured diesel tank resulted in a spill into Shooks Run Creek. As reported by Denver7, approximately 50 gallons of diesel fuel escaped into the creek following the incident on Wednesday afternoon.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Las Animas and Wahsatch, adjacent to Shooks Run Park. The Colorado Springs Fire Department noted that the truck involved in the incident carried a diesel tank capable of holding 100 gallons, half of which was emptied by the accident, as noted by FOX21.
In response to the spill, emergency measures were initiated. "Hazmat 14 used absorbent socks in the creek in hopes of keeping the diesel from spreading," as per KKTV. The Colorado Springs Police Department reportedly became aware that diesel had entered Shooks Run Creek through a stormwater drain at 3:37 p.m.
Efforts to manage the environmental threat continued with the dispatch of a vacuum truck and a reclamation team. The area around Las Animas and Wahsatch was temporarily closed to facilitate cleanup operations, requesting the public to steer clear of the location while they clean. CSFD emphasized avoiding the affected area due to the ongoing clean-up operation, aiming to minimize the disruption to traffic and residents.
