
A 57-year-old man drowned this past weekend at Lake St. Clair Metro Park, a tragic occurrence at a local recreation spot that has brought attention to water safety in the area. The Macomb County Sheriff's Office posted that the man was swimming with a friend Saturday when he went underwater. The incident happened around 5:30 p.m., in the waters off Metro Parkway and Train Road.
Following the man's disappearance beneath the surface, "a nearby friend located him and pulled him to the surface at which time life saving efforts were attempted," as per the Detroit News. Despite these efforts, the man later was pronounced deceased. The name and city of residence of the decedent have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is currently underway. The occurrence underlines a concerning trend in the local area, with this incident representing the 10th drowning in Oakland County in 2024, according to WWJ Newsradio 950.
