Ada Township Family Left Distressed as Teens Set Off Firework on Porch, Kent County Sheriff's Office Investigating Potential FelonySource: Google Street View

An Ada Township woman's sense of security was rattled after two teenage boys were caught on her home's security camera lighting a firework on her porch around 1 a.m. last Saturday. Angela Gill described the sound of the explosion as akin to a gunshot, initially casting doubt over what had transpired until she inspected the damage by daylight. According to WOODTV, the homeowner recounted finding holes in her home's siding and a powder-like substance that pointed to the use of the firecracker.

The surveillance footage provided to authorities features one of the boys knocking on the door while the other one ignites the firework. "When you see how much of an explosion that happened so close to your family, it's not cool at all. This is something that could have burned down our house," Gill expressed, as per FOX 17. Neighboring properties appear to have been targeted as well, as the couple later found out from other residents on the street.

Gill and her family, including two young daughters, were home during the incident. Notably alarmed by the potential danger, she said, as cited by WZZM13, “If we would have opened the door, or any of my girls would have opened the door, you know, they would have done some damage to not just our property, but our faces". Gill's impassioned plea to the culprits urged them to cease their reckless behavior.

The Kent County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating and looking to identify the individuals in the security footage. Concerned homeowner Gill and concerned neighbors are likely awaiting justice, analyzing the ramifications of what could've been a far more disastrous event. She emphasized the seriousness of the situation, speculating that the teenagers were potentially recording the act for social media. Damage estimates are underway, but if costs exceed $1,000, the young individuals involved could face felony charges, according to FOX 17.
