An Albemarle pastor is facing legal consequences for his alleged failure to report crimes against children, as conveyed by multiple reports. Kenny Parker, who leads Straitway Baptist Church and is the chief administrator of the church's school, was charged with three counts of failing to report crimes against juveniles, as revealed in a statement by the Stanly County Sheriff's Office.
The investigation, initiating on May 30, unearthed a series of sexual assault allegations involving minors that reportedly spanned over several years. According to JoeMyGod.com, these charges pertain to Parker's involvement, or lack thereof, in this ongoing investigation. The full extent of the allegations against Parker have not been disclosed, however, the situation has prompted critical reviews of the church and school's protections for children.
Adding to the gravity of these accusations, Stanly County Sheriff Jeff Crisco was quoted by The Stanly News & Press stating, "The preacher was told by several parents about the incidents that were going on, that’s the reason why he was charged with what he was charged with." This explicit acknowledgment of Parker's awareness of the alleged incidents intensifies the scrutiny over his inaction.
While the sheriff did not confirm if Parker is still serving in his pastoral capacity, the ongoing investigation involves multiple victims, reflecting a potentially systemic oversight in protecting the congregation's youngest members. Parker was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 9. The details of the case remain largely under wraps, as WCNC reports that little information has been made available to the public.
