
In a harrowing case of domestic violence, Joshua Edward Schilling, a 53-year-old Apple Valley resident, was arrested following a prolonged assault on a 41-year-old woman. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported that the ordeal began on the evening of Friday, August 2, 2024, and continued for several hours until the victim could escape. It wasn't until the morning of Saturday, August 3, when Schilling fell asleep, that the victim was able to flee and seek refuge at a relative's home in Victorville. From there, she received medical attention for her injuries.
According to the Sheriff's Department, Deputy C. Hubbard led the investigation and discovered the details of the traumatic incident. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday, August 6, and remains in custody at the High Desert Detention Center, facing severe charges, including attempted murder and torture. Nonetheless, it took some days for the Victorville District Attorney's Office to file a sequence of charges against Schilling on Thursday, August 8. These include PC 206 – Torture, PC 273.5(a) – Corporal Injury to Spouse/Cohabitant, and several others.
The charges leveled against Schilling also encompass PC 136.1(b)(1) – Dissuading a Witness, PC 422(a) – Criminal Threats, PC 261(a)(2) – Forcible Rape, and PC 148(a)(1) – Resist, Obstruct, Delay of Peace Officer.
