Tensions rose and precautionary measures were swiftly enacted at Arapahoe Ridge High School on Tuesday, following the report of a suspicious individual in the vicinity of the campus. Located at 6600 Arapahoe Road, the school was placed on lockdown as the Boulder County Sheriff's Office, assisted by the Boulder Police Department, responded to the situation that began to unfold around 12:30 p.m., as stated by Denver Gazette.
After the incident, law enforcement conducted a thorough sweep of the building to ensure the safety of the students and staff. Following their initial response, officials lifted the lockdown, allowing the school district to resume normal operations by approximately 1:25 p.m. Boulder TEC afternoon classes were canceled for the rest of the day, as per KDVR.
The Boulder Valley School District Education Center, which encompasses Arapahoe Ridge High School, Boulder TEC, Boulder Universal, the Transitions Program, and the Advanced Alternative Learning Program for Students, was also implicated in the secure status protocol. According to Randy Barber, a spokesperson for the district, law enforcement's motivation to enact the lockdown was sparked by reports of an individual being seen on the roof of the Arapahoe Ridge Campus. "As a precautionary measure law enforcement swept the building," Barber said in an email, as obtained by Daily Camera.
Throughout the ordeal, the community was advised to stay clear of the area while the respective authorities worked together to bring the situation to a close. Boulder County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Vinnie Montez confirmed, just before 12:30 p.m., that the Boulder Police Department is assisting the sheriff’s office in their efforts to bring back a semblance of normality and secure the scene, as reported by Daily Camera. Further details on the suspicious person and the reasons behind their presence were not immediately released. Updates on the situation and any potential charges to be followed are anticipated as the investigation progresses.
