In a demonstration of community dedication to aspirations for worldwide harmony, Arlington's Rotary Club has recently finalized the construction of a Peace Pole at Meadowbrook Park. Installed amidst the refreshing greenery and newly crafted rose beds, this symbolic monument carries a global message of peace. Engraved on its flanks in various languages is the phrase "May Peace Prevail on Earth," a common chant among peace advocates and, a beacon of hope for many, according to the City of Arlington.
With the completion of the Peace Pole project this past weekend, Meadowbrook Park cements its position as not only a local leisure hotspot but also a landmark of peace. According to the City of Arlington, there are an estimated 250,000 Peace Poles globally, a nod to the efforts for peace in every corner of the world. Meadowbrook Park, Arlington's first city park, opened in 1924 and features picnic grounds and originally, a nine-hole golf course.
The installation now stands ready for its official unveiling, which is set to coincide with a centennial celebration for Meadowbrook Park in November. This event isn't just a routine civic engagement, it's a milestone, marking a full hundred years since the park's inception and now, the beginning of a new chapter in its history with the establishment of the Peace Pole.
Behind this project is a coalition of local businesses and organizations, including Arlington Parks and Recreation and Atmos Energy. Significant contributions were also made by Graham Associates, Hutcherson Construction Inc., H3 Construction, 3DI Sign & Design, SiteOne Landscape Supply, and Whiz-Q Stone, all coming together to see this vision through to fruition. Their collective efforts underscore a unifying commitment toward fostering a sense of peace and community solidarity within Arlington's public spaces.
