An armed burglary suspect was hospitalized following an incident involving police gunfire yesterday night at a Manheim Township business, according to authorities. The Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department (NLCRPD) reported to Local 21 News that the altercation occurred on the 1200 block of Lancaster Road.
Responding to reports of a burglary in progress around 8:17 p.m., police encountered the suspect, who, upon their arrival, was purportedly armed and subsequently fled. During the pursuit, an officer discharged their weapon, subsequently non-lethally wounding the suspect, reported by PennLive. The suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed, is receiving treatment for injuries considered non-life-threatening.
The Lancaster County District Attorney's Office is currently overseeing the investigation into the shooting incident. As the sun yielded to the urgency of flashing lights and the night's unforeseen drama, the district did not release information about the business targeted by the suspect or unveil further details on the charges they might be facing.
According to a statement obtained by ABC27, "The suspect was transported to a local hospital with what officers said are non-life-threatening injuries." Details surrounding the incident and the events leading up to the shooting remain under investigation by police detectives. The unfolding of this situation raises questions, yet the narrative remains incomplete as authorities continue to piece together the backdrop against which a burglary escalated into a gunshot-peppered chase.
