The city of Austin can expect another stretch of intense heat as temperatures are slated to crest the 100-degree mark once again. According to the National Weather Service, today’s highs are anticipated to hover near 100 degrees with heat index values possibly reaching as high as 107. The balmy weather is forecasted to persist throughout the week, with the mercury possibly climbing slightly higher, to roughly 102-103 degrees, over the weekend and into early next week.

Despite the soaring temperatures, the city's chances for rain remain scarce. As reported by KXAN, there’s only a small probability—about 10%—for a spot shower to quickly and scarcely ease the heat, mainly in areas along and east of I-35. However, the prevailing high-pressure system is anticipated to keep conditions predominantly dry across the region.
Meanwhile, meteorological eyes are trained on the Atlantic, where Tropical Storm Ernesto continues to churn the waters. As it makes its approach towards Puerto Rico, the tropical storm is expected to intensify to hurricane status before steering clear of the mainland and heading towards Bermuda. This update comes courtesy of KXAN, which also indicates that Ernesto should stay away from the Lower 48.
