
As the academic year looms, over a hundred students at Western Tech are faced with a critical decision following the disappearance of their Advanced Placement exam answer sheets. In May, the students sat for hours-long examinations, only to be informed in July that their efforts may have been in vain. A conundrum of choices has been presented: To retake the exams, accept a projected score, or cancel the test with a full refund, as reported by WMAR-2 News.
According to WMAR-2 News, the father of a rising senior who was among the affected recounted the stress upon learning of the mishap. "He was very distraught. He just knew, I gotta do this all over again. That was his biggest concern," the father said.
Baltimore County Public Schools insists protocols were followed, they affirm that receipts confirm the College Board's receipt of the exams. The College Board, however, disputes having received some of the exams.
One anonymous parent stated, as per CBS News, "You feel like you have no control as a parent and that's something you struggle with when you have kids." The frustrating situation leaves families feeling powerless and questioning the fairness of the options presented. Meanwhile, today marked the deadline for students to decide their path forward, amidst appeals for extensions and a resolution from the College Board and educational authorities.
