A Battle Creek man in his 20s was arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that injured another 23-year-old local man, announced the Battle Creek Police Department (BCPD). The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday, occurred at the intersection of Cliff and Nelson streets. WZZM 13 reported that the victim, after being wounded, received swift treatment on the scene by the Battle Creek Fire Department and was later taken to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
According to the victim's account, which he gave to officers upon their arrival, an individual in a red Chevrolet pulled up beside him as he was walking down Cliff Street and shot him in the left thigh before speeding off south on Nelson Street. Within a day, BCPD's Gang Suppression Unit and the Special Investigations Unit had identified and arrested the suspected gunman on Wednesday, around 6 p.m., as per the details underlined by a FOX 17 News update.
The unspecified suspect was taken to the Calhoun County Jail, where he faces multiple felony charges including weapon and assault offenses. WOODTV.com reported that BCPD had not released the suspect's name.
As the suspect is currently being detained, the case moves forward to the judicial system. The BCPD continues to urge anyone with information regarding this incident to come forward and assist in ongoing efforts to address community safety.
