The Bobcat Bonnie’s location at Partridge Creek in Clinton Township has shuttered its doors. In an announcement that came somewhat unexpectedly, Matthew Buskard, the owner of the growing restaurant chain, informed the public through a Facebook post that it was time to say goodbye to this particular spot. Buskard chose to highlight the journey and the positives rather than dwelling on the specifics behind the closure.
Bobcat Bonnie's made its debut at Partridge Creek just as the COVID-19 pandemic began to surge. The timing exposed the restaurant to unprecedented challenges, as detailed by Buskard in a social media post. "Covid gave us a ton of challenges- but forced us to grow - we had some amazing years pivoting and trying new ways to be of service up in Macomb," he recalled. Despite the adversity, the restaurant managed to pivot and adapt, experimenting with various services such as carryout and drive-through options. However, the closure signals an end to their tenure at this location, though other locations remain in operation. The Detroit, Ferndale, Wyandotte, Lansing, Ypsilanti, Grand Rapids, and Kalamazoo outposts are not affected by this closure, according to a report by FOX 2 Detroit.
Buskard has been a notable player in Michigan’s dining scene since opening the first Bobcat Bonnie's nine years ago. Known for creative menu items and themed days like Burger Mondays and all-day happy hours on Thursdays, Bobcat Bonnie's has become a staple for those looking for a hip dining experience. Buskard also operates the Fly Trap and recently opened Scout Vester, expanding his culinary influence in the region. Despite the closure, the restaurant owner expressed deep gratitude for the local community's support and hopes to return to the area in the future, signifying this is not a permanent farewell but merely temporary, as stated in the Detroit Free Press.
For patrons concerned about the implications of the closure, Buskard ensured continuity in service and commitment to staff. Employees from the Partridge Creek location have the option to relocate to other locations or find new opportunities, with assurance from Buskard that “some may move on, but either way we will ensure they are taken care of.” he emphasized in his social media statement, as reported by Detroit Free Press. Additionally, gift cards remain valid across all remaining establishments and any reservations at the now-closed site will be addressed proactively.
