In a remarkable morning incident in Cape Coral, a 12-year-old girl displayed quick thinking and bravery as she ushered her four dogs to safety from their smoke-engulfed home; an action that took place just before she left for school. Connie Callahan, the child's grandmother, relayed the distress experienced when her granddaughter noticed smoke filling their residence on SW 7th Place and acted with haste despite the imminent collapse of the ceiling, as reported by NBC-2 News.
Early Monday morning, as it neared 8 a.m., the perceptive girl, acting on the scent of smoke and prompted by the urgent behavior of her dog known as Big Mama, managed to call 911 before the situation could worsen, leading to the rapid response of the Cape Coral fire crews, who discovered the origin of the fire to be in the garage, and they were able to extinguish it without the flames spreading significantly through the rest of the home.
Following the harrowing event, the young heroine was subjected to medical scrutiny at a local hospital for minor smoke inhalation and gratefully, as documented by the Cape Coral Fire Department and conveyed by the grandmother in an interview with WFLA, she is expected to fully recover, "I am grateful my grandbabies made it out, and the dogs are alive," Callahan shared, shedding light on the terrifying moments when fire encroached upon the life of her family and their pets.
