A woman was found beaten to death inside the restroom of a QuikTrip gas station in northeast Charlotte. Officials identified the victim as 47-year-old Glandina Latamba Dixon, who suffered fatal blunt-force trauma. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, who responded to the scene late last Saturday night at approximately 11:15 p.m., have since charged 53-year-old Sam Roary with first-degree murder, according to information obtained by WBTW.
Roary, who had a known relationship with the victim, is currently being held at the Mecklenburg County jail. His bond has been set at an a $1 million. The distress call that led authorities to the gruesome discovery came after Dixon herself apparently managed to dial 911, reporting she was bleeding from the back of her head and that there was blood on the floor; she was pronounced dead by 11:23 p.m., according to the same WBTW report.
Surveillance footage from the gas station became a critical piece of evidence in tracing the events leading up to Dixon's death. WNCT detailed the video showing a Black man stepping out of a black Ford pickup truck and following Dixon into the store. The same man was seen retrieving what appeared to be a hammer from his truck before he entered the women’s restroom, spending approximately 40 seconds inside before exiting the store and driving away.
Documents reveal the suspect, identified as Sam Roary, was the one who walked directly into the women's bathroom moments before Dixon's assault. WNCT's coverage pointed out that Roary's physical description and vehicle information matched those from the surveillance footage, which led to his arrest.
Further investigation corroborated the established link between Roary and Dixon, bolstering the case against Roary. WCCB Charlotte's report confirmed that he was arrested only two days after the murder occurred. However, the motives behind this tragic incident remain part of an ongoing investigation.
