The Chester community is mourning the loss of 18-year-old Amir Rambert, who was fatally shot in a double shooting incident. Rambert's life was commemorated with a balloon release at Memorial Park on Engle Street, as reported by FOX29. "I just can't believe it. I'm really shocked," Denise Green, Rambert's mother, expressed her disbelief and sorrow during the event, "I'm still trying to understand, like why?" she said.
According to 6ABC, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on Monday on the 700 block of Engle Street. Alongside Rambert, a 17-year-old was also shot but is in stable condition after being hit once in the leg. Chester Police Commissioner Steven Gretzky assured the public that detectives are working diligently, "Most importantly, we want to give the parents the closure they need because this is more senseless gun violence." Rambert was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Demonstrating unity in the face of tragedy, a vigil was organized to honor Rambert, a high school student set to graduate next year. The vigil not only paid tribute to the young man but also raised awareness about the prevalence of gun violence in the area. The grave implications of such violence weigh heavily on the community, as reflected in a statement obtained by PHL17 from Rambert’s mother regarding his bright but tragically cut-short future.
