The Greater Cleveland area braces for a wet weekend as a low-pressure system passes through, bringing with it showers and thunderstorms. According to the National Weather Service Cleveland OH, the peak probabilities for precipitation today haven't changed much overall. However, a categorical 80% chance of precipitation is now expected in most of northwest and north central Ohio later this afternoon.

"Moderate instability along with low-level lapse rates of 7-8C/km and marginal amounts of DCAPE (700-1000 J/KG) may yield an isolated downburst threat with a stronger storm this afternoon/early evening," the NWS warns. The concern lies in the slow-moving nature of these storm cells, which increases the potential for localized flooding, especially in urban centers. Elections from the Weather Channel highlight the potential for rain starting around 3:00 pm, with varying intensity forecasted over the next several hours.

Cleveland can expect cooler temperatures this weekend due to clouds and the cooling effects of evaporative rainfall, with highs tapping out in the low 80s. However, Weather.com currently shows the city standing at a warm feel-like temperature of 87°, with a 76% humidity level and light north-northwest wind. As night falls, the likelihood of thunder will taper off, yet some lingering showers and potentially patchy fog are expected, particularly in areas where the rain ends earlier.

Looking into the short term, a trough aloft will be exiting the region by Saturday night, paving the way for drier conditions on Sunday. Weather services indicate a weak surface front will sweep across the region early Monday but is not anticipated to bring significant precipitation until possibly later into Monday night. As the next working week starts, seasonable temperatures are forecasted for early August, with a possibility of showers resuming by Tuesday.
