A fatal car crash claimed the life of a Cleveland man yesterday on the Ohio Turnpike. Manuel Alvarez-Loreto was identified as the victim in an accident that occurred near milepost 112 in Erie County's Oxford Township, as reported by SDG News Group. Alvarez-Loreto was operating a 2007 Ford Focus and rear-ended a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by Victor Dominguez-Olivan from Chicago, Illinois, when he slowed down in the right lane.
The collision forcefully pushed both vehicles onto the right berm, leading to severe consequences for those involved. According to authorities, "Mr. Alvarez-Loreto was slowing/stopped in the right lane when struck from behind by" Dominguez-Olivan, as stated by the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a news release obtained by shelbydailyglobe.com. Alvarez-Loreto succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Fisher Titus Hospital. The incident, which occurred around 5:46 a.m., also left the other driver and the passenger from the Ford Focus, Paola Rojas, in serious condition.
WKYC reports that Rojas and Alvarez-Loreto were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident, a detail similarly confirmed by other sources. Dominguez-Olivan was also in serious condition following the crash, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Milan post. The presence of seat belts, however, did not prevent the tragic outcome of Alvarez-Loreto's injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol affirmed that the crash remains under investigation. North Central EMS and the Ohio Turnpike Commission assisted on the scene, a collaborative move to address and languishingly scrutinize the circumstances leading to such a fatal outcome. Authorities have yet to disclose any further details regarding the cause of the crash or any charges that may be pending as a result of the incident.
