Westbound lanes of Interstate 270 in north Columbus were shut down for several hours yesterday afternoon following a motorcycle crash. The incident, causing major traffic delays, happened just east of the junction with Interstate 71. As reported by The Columbus Dispatch, the crash occurred around 12:40 p.m., and the motorcyclist involved sustained critical injuries.
According to NBC4I, the Ohio Department of Transportation was forced to close all lanes on I-270 westbound from Cleveland Avenue to I-71. Having wiped out, the Columbus Division of Police has revealed that the motorcyclist was transported to the hospital in critical condition. By early evening, the roads were clear, and the closure was lifted, restoring flow to the beleaguered traffic arteries of the interstate.
Rush hour tensions for commuters were heightened due to the total closure of the thoroughfare, known for its heavy daily traffic volume. Emergency response teams swiftly attended the scene, and the injured party was quickly taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital, as per a dispatch from the Columbus Division of Police.
The aftermath of the crash rippled through the veins of city transit, with the Ohio Department of Transportation's OHGO app reflecting the closure. Once the motorcyclist, along with the backed-up traffic, were cleared by 4 p.m., the app showed normal traffic patterns resuming, much to the relief of delayed drivers.
