
Culver's in Rochester Hills lent a hand to the victims and families affected by the June 15th splash pad shooting, dedicating a day to fundraising efforts. As reported by CBS News Detroit, the local eatery, located at 92 East Auburn Road, increased its typical charitable giveback from 10-15% to a substantial 50% of the day's sales, offering a more significant contribution in response to the incident which resulted in nine people wounded, including two children.
The tragic event, attributed to 42-year-old Michael William Nash who ultimately took his life, prompting residents and businesses alike to support those reeling from the violence. Fox 2 Detroit mentioned the active participation of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Rochester Hills Fire Department during the event, with first responders engaging with the community to reinforce a message of unity and support by delivering food and greeting patrons.
The owner of Culver's, Vicki Zielke, expressed a deeply personal commitment to the cause, “Neighbors helping neighbors, I feel it’s our job as part of the community, and it’s a wonderful community," a sentiment she shared during an interview with WWJ Newsradio 950. In a demonstration of ongoing support, Zielke has provided food to the families and implemented a donation bin to receive contributions indefinitely for those affected.
Sgt. Chris Renye from the Oakland County Sheriff's Office conveyed the sentiment of local law enforcement, saying, "We figured that this was a great way to serve the community and let them know that we care and we're always there to support them," according to CBS News Detroit. A local customer, Jeff Inwood, told CBS News Detroit, "The victims need help. It was a tragedy, and if everybody comes together and helps each other out, what a great world it will be."
