The City of Dallas is planting seeds for a greener future with its latest initiative. In collaboration with Dallas County Health and Human Services, the city’s Office of Environmental Quality and Sustainability (OEQS) has rolled out an Urban Agriculture Infrastructure Support Program. It’s a cash injection to the tune of approximately $100,000 intended to bolster agricultural projects right in the heart of the city. This initiative is a practical move to further develop community gardens, rooftop farms, and hydroponic systems, according to the City of Dallas.

Urban farmers and food producers are about to get a much-needed lift. Starting August 5, 2024, growers can apply to receive a slice of this fund which was established to not only help them plan and design but also to install or renovate vital infrastructure.

It’s all part of a grander vision laid out in the Comprehensive Environmental Climate Action Plan, specifically, Goal 7. By supporting urban agriculture, Dallas aims to create a nutritious thread that weaves through the urban landscape, connecting communities to the very essence of sustenance.
