Come Monday, Dallas streets will see the enforcement of a new city ordinance regarding unregistered vehicles. This initiative, led by the Dallas Transportation and Public Works Department, responds to resident concerns about unregistered and often dilapidated vehicles cluttering public spaces.
These cars, frequently in states of disrepair, have contributed to visual blight and posed environmental hazards by leaking fluids into storm drains and scattering debris. City staff reports suggest that these issues are not only a nuisance but also a significant safety hazard.
The new ordinance prohibits parking motor vehicles on public streets, highways, or alleys if they lack current registration, have expired for two months or more, or have temporary license plates expired for 30 days or longer, according to the City of Dallas. From August 19 through September 3, the Parking Management and Enforcement Division will issue warning citations to violators to help residents transition into compliance. After this grace period, fines of $45 per offense will be enforced to uphold community standards and environmental integrity.
