Vallejo saw a moment of high drama this past Thursday when a strong-arm robbery occurred at a local business. In the afternoon, around 1:38 PM, an unidentified man stormed into a shop on the 3600 block of Sonoma Blvd, vaulted the counter and assaulted an employee, before fleeing with $3,000 in stolen cash from an open safe, as reported by the Vallejo Police Department.
However, the criminal's escape was short-lived thanks to a fortuitous mistake on his part, according to the Vallejo Police Department's Facebook page. Unbeknownst to him, he had also taken a GPS tracking device, which the officers used to track him to a nearby business on the 3500 block of Sonoma Blvd. There, he was in the process of inquiring about the cash register when the officers apprehended him, stopping what might have been a second robbery in its tracks.
After he was caught, the police showed his picture to witnesses to confirm his identity. They discovered he was a convicted felon already on probation for previous thefts. This kind of repeated behavior often leads people back to the criminal justice system.
