Authorities in Dearborn are actively seeking two male suspects following a robbery at a jewelry store, which led an employee to discharge a firearm. As reported by CBS News Detroit, the robbery took place on August 7, around 5:30 p.m., at Mariam Jewelry located in the 7000 block of Schaefer. According to the police statement, the suspects entered the establishment wearing masks and armed with a rifle, ordering patrons and workers to the ground.
While one suspect maintained control over the hostages with the rifle, his accomplice proceeded to pack several jewelry items into a bag. During these tense moments, as described by FOX 2 Detroit, an employee took a calculated risk, pulling out a gun and firing shots at the suspects, causing them to flee. In a swift reaction, with the intention to neutralize the threat, the employee might have hit the suspects, although their injuries remain unclear.
The suspects made their getaway in a black sedan, described by the police as potentially being a 2011-2013 Mazda 3, identified by its peeling paint on the hood and trunk. Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin urged the community involvement, stating, "We are urging the public to come forward and provide information to assist with the investigation," in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit.
No store employees or customers suffered injuries during the robbery. Sgt. Jamison Carpenter of the Dearborn Police Department is the lead investigator seeking tips, and he can be reached at 313-943-2041 or via email at [email protected]. For those wishing to offer information anonymously, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP, as informed by WWJ Newsradio 950.
