A 25-year-old Detroit man, Joshua Charston Brown-Hill, has been charged in Oakland County with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct after allegedly being caught with a minor. According to The Detroit News, the accused was found by a West Bloomfield Township police officer during a patrol outside a closed park after hours.
Reports state that the officer discovered Brown-Hill with the 12-year-old near his car at Pine Lake Park around 1 a.m. last Thursday. The park, which closes at sunset, became a scene for law enforcement intervention after the officer learned Brown-Hill had just allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with the child. The arrest resulted from multiple incidents said to have occurred starting June 1, as per information obtained by ClickOnDetroit.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald commended the diligent action of the officer, stating, "Those who target children will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." The gravity of such cases is emphasized by the Michigan Incident Crime Reporting Program, which reported a significant number of 6,196 incidents of criminal sexual conduct for the year 2022, though reflecting a decrease from the previous year according to the MSP's Crime in Michigan Annual Report mentioned by The Detroit News.
Brown-Hill remains in custody at the Oakland County Jail with a bond set at $3 million. The young girl involved was safely returned to her parents and has since received medical attention, indicating a level of care after the traumatic event. Although officials state there does not appear to be a broader danger to the public, the focus remains set on the well-being of the victim and the pursuit of justice in this case. Further developments are anticipated as Brown-Hill is scheduled to appear for a probable cause hearing on August 29, followed by a preliminary exam on September 5, as reported by The Detroit News.
