A semi-truck collision on I-94 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, resulted in an unexpected spillage of salad dressing, causing significant traffic delays yesterday afternoon. The incident, which occurred around 1 p.m. along the eastbound lanes of the freeway at 9 Mile Road, led to only the left lane remaining open for several hours, as reported by Audacy. Alternate routes suggested were Harper or Gratiot, as drivers looked to circumnavigate the congested area.
Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) officials stated that a truck had collided with a bridge, causing it to quickly spill debris over the freeway. Initial witness observations mistakenly interpreted the scene as involving drywall and cinder blocks. According to a traffic tipster Chris interviewed by WWJ's Tony Ortiz, "It looked like he wandered off or something forced him to go over and that column just missed the passenger door and hit the box and just sliced it right off," as mentioned by Audacy.
The casualty of the crash was a Penske truck, with footage showing the vehicle's side completely sheared and jugs of white dressing littered across the shoulder of the highway. The freeway was eventually cleared and reopened to regular traffic around 5 p.m., as ClickOnDetroit reported.
The material strewn along the highway was confirmed to be salad dressing, specifically gallon containers resembling Greek dressing, though the brand name Nikki's mentioned by FOX 2 Detroit remains unconfirmed.
No other vehicles appear to have been involved in the event, and there was no immediate information on the truck driver's condition post-collision. Michigan State Police have begun to investigate the cause of the crash. Stay tuned with local news affiliates for further details as they become available.
