As reported by FOX 4, the incident occurred on Monday when a telecommunications crew accidentally struck a 33-inch concrete water line near Trinity Boulevard. The mishap left the Fort Worth community scrambling as water surged skyward and into streets and homes before crews managed to halt the flow two hours later.
Susie Clark, a resident who said she will need to replace "just about everything" after 23 years in her home, said, as per FOX 4, "Everything in this house is damaged. It’s going to have to be replaced except for my wonderful antiques of my mom’s and grandmother’s. So, God was looking over for me, and I’m thankful. But I’m devastated. I’m looking at months of repairs, months". Similarly, those affected include a local educator forced to coordinate extensive home repairs over teaching, compounding the distress for individuals like C.K., who recorded the ordeal on her cell phone.
The City of Fort Worth has accomplished repairs to the water line, stating that the line is now fully operational again. However, restoration work at the site was expected to continue through Wednesday, according to city official Mary Gugliuzza as reported by FOX 4. Residents in neighboring Hurst also experienced some temporary disruptions, including low water pressure.
Residents affected by the flooding have shared their experiences, encapsulated by Andrew Hua's account to NBC DFW: "The water was coming up to our bellies," Hua said, "At first, it was kind of funny just because it was so ridiculous, and then the reality kind of set in." Hua, among others, has had to vacate his property, facing a temporary move to a hotel and looming repairs. Neighbor Martin Pacheco also deals with significant home damage, while falling trees sealed the fate of a nearby shed.
Crucial details about the incident, including the contractor's identity responsible for the break and whether they carried the necessary permits or will face consequences, remain undisclosed thus far. A city spokesperson said, as cited by FOX 4, "The city has been provided the insurance information from that contractor, and we’ve provided that to our risk management group in the city and that’s who these customers will actually be dealing with now." This leaves residents awaiting further developments as they begin the arduous process of recovery and restoration.
