On an otherwise ordinary Thursday in El Dorado County, the dull edge of routine was sharply interrupted as CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers, with the assistance of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, made an arrest in a suspected arson case. Lacy Young, 41, is suspected of igniting three separate fires on August 29 along Fort Jim Road and Newtown Road in Placerville. According to a post from CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit's Facebook Page, Young was booked into El Dorado County Jail on suspicion of arson.
The diligence of fire crews allowed for each fire to be extinguished within 20 minutes of the initial ignition, confining the damage to less than a quarter acre. From the onset of this year to the close of July, CAL FIRE Law Enforcement Officers have made 78 arson arrests, a sobering reminder of the ever-present threat of intentional fires. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to the Arson Tip Line at 1-800-468-4408.
Inquires regarding Lacy Young’s arrest and the ongoing investigation should be directed towards the El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office. Contact information is publicly available, encouraging those with questions to reach out at (530) 621-6472. The swift response by fire personnel in these incidents underscores the critical role they play in safeguarding people and the environment against the destructive touch of arson.
