The vigilance of U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at El Paso area ports has led to numerous enforcement actions in the past 10 days, including drug seizures, the apprehension of fugitives, and penalties for agricultural violations. These activities underscore the multifaceted approach CBP takes to secure the border and enhance public safety.

At the forefront of these operations was a significant methamphetamine bust at the Ysleta port of entry on August 19, 2024, as reported by CBP. CBP officers, under Operation Apollo X, confiscated 150 pounds of meth from a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old U.S. citizen. Anomalies spotted during a routine X-ray scan and a drug-sniffing dog's alert led to the discovery of 129 bundles hidden throughout the car. "Homeland security is our principal mission but the ongoing vigilance of the CBP workforce delivers significant enforcement activity touching upon a wide variety of violations," said CBP El Paso Director Field Operations Hector A. Mancha in a statement. The driver was handed over to the Texas Department of Public Safety for prosecution.

Along with this major drug haul, the period saw additional confiscations of methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and marijuana. The intensified scrutiny by CBP officers also netted 26 NCIC fugitives, including individuals wanted for severe offenses such as sexual exploitation of minors and drug charges.

Furthermore, agriculture specialists played a crucial role, issuing $3,125 in fines against individuals attempting to bring prohibited products into the U.S. Seized items included pork, mangos, pomegranates, and live plants. "Members of the public are reminded to declare all products acquired abroad to CBP upon entry," the agency emphasized, advocating compliance to avoid penalties, according to CBP. Weapons and unreported currency amounts surpassing $90,000 were also part of the haul during this enforcement period.

These enforcement efforts by the CBP are integral to the larger strategy of maintaining U.S. borders' integrity. Seizures and apprehensions were executed in line with CBP regulations, and all subjects arrested face prosecution by the relevant federal or state authorities.
