Residents of Ellicott City and the surrounding areas should be aware that a significant construction project is underway. The Howard County government has begun repair and improvement efforts on a stormwater management pond located just south of 8360 Montgomery Run Road. According to Howard County's statement, the plan involves replacing the aging metal spillway pipe with a more durable reinforced concrete structure, along with necessary grading and stabilization.
With the safety of motorists and efficiency at the forefront, the project commenced on August 1st and is slated for completion by late August 2025, weather permitting. Commuters who frequent Montgomery Run Road should note that the road segment adjacent to the pond will be closed for around four months. A detour rerouting traffic via Montgomery Run Road to Falls Run Road has been established, aiming to minimize disruption and keep travelers on the move.
Drivers traversing this zone should expect to see alterations in their usual commute. Howard County has issued a reminder to remain vigilant and adhere to the reduced speed limits and narrowed lanes. "Please slow down and don’t follow too closely when travelling through a work zone," Howard County emphasized.
