
Last Saturday night, the Fairfield Police Department was successful in de-escalating a potentially dangerous situation involving an armed man at a local business. The incident unfolded on Gateway Boulevard when police received a distress call at approximately 8:02 pm, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
An employee had reported that a bleeding man was threatening staff with an axe and a knife. Officers quickly responded and, upon arrival, found the individual by the store’s firearms counter, weapons in hand, and standing close to several employees. Employing their Crisis Response and Intervention Training (CRIT), they were able to defuse the situation, "Officers worked just as quickly to de-escalate the situation", per the Fairfield Police Department.
The man, who exhibited signs of intoxication, also made statements that raised concerns about his mental state. As a result, he was not only apprehended but given a mental health evaluation and assistance, "The training, combined with our work with the Solano Mobile Crisis Team, regularly ensures the de-escalation of crisis situations and the provision of support to those individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis", according to the Fairfield Police Department.
