A tragic incident unfolded just before the stroke of midnight on Tuesday when a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while she attempted to cross Highway 67 in Duncanville. The accident, which closed down the northbound lanes of the highway for several hours, took place at the intersection of Cockrell Hill Road.
The Dallas County Sheriff's Office, who responded to the scene, has reported that the driver involved in the collision stopped to render aid and has been fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. In a statement obtained by FOX4 News, the Sheriff's Office said, "A woman who tried to cross the highway was struck by a vehicle and killed." Despite the circumstances, it appears that the driver is not expected to be charged for the accident.
Details regarding the identity of the woman who lost her life have yet to be released, as authorities are still working diligently to confirm her identity. The WFAA report highlighted that the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office is actively involved in the case for this purpose.
The aftermath of the incident led to a significant closure of Hwy. 67, causing disruption well into the early morning hours. Lanes were eventually reopened shortly before 3 a.m., allowing the resumption of traffic flow through the area. "The crash shut down the highway for a couple hours before it reopened shortly before 3 a.m.," detailed the Sheriff's Office to WFAA. This tragic event serves as a grim reminder of the inherent dangers present when attempting to navigate across busy thoroughfares, especially at night.
