In a devastating incident in Ardmore, two individuals lost their lives in a house fire that took place on Wednesday night. The Lower Merion Fire Department received an emergency call and was dispatched to the scene in the 200 block of Greenfield Avenue, as per the officials from Lower Merion Township. According to NBC Philadelphia, the blaze was reported just after 9 p.m., and first responders were confronted with heavy smoke and flames emanating from the second floor upon their arrival.

Having been reported missing initially, two people were tragically found by firefighters amidst the chaos. An adult man, located in the doorway of a back bedroom on the second floor, was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead. Ironically, after quelling the flames which was completed around 10 p.m., firefighters discovered an adult woman in the same room who also succumbed to her injuries. No other occupants were found by the first responders who searched the rest of the home. A third victim, another woman, managed to escape the fire and, as per FOX 29, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Lower Merion Township officials issued a statement, obtained by CBS News, mentioning that the incident appears to be accidental, though it is currently under investigation to confirm the cause. One of the more alarming details of the incident was the status of the smoke detectors in the home. Officials mentioned that while multiple smoke detectors were installed, none were functional at the time of the fire, a fact that may have contributed to the severity of the outcome.

The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
