Flint's Bishop International Airport Secures Nearly $2 Million for Key Upgrades and ExpansionSource: Google Street View

Flint's Bishop International Airport is set to receive a nearly $2 million boost from federal funds for various upgrades. ABC 12 reported that the funding came through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which Congressman Dan Kildee announced on Thursday.

The allocation will be dedicated to improving both passenger and operational amenities at the airport. Enhancements to the gate and ticket counters and modernized information displays within the terminal are among the planned changes announced. Notably short of being more than just a facilitator of flight, Bishop International embarks on a journey to refine the travel experience with these upgrades. According to WILX 10, the renovations also include the construction of a 6,000-foot service road and an additional taxilane.

Previous funding efforts for the airport, secured by Kildee's office in 2022, totaled $3 million and went toward repairing the terminal roof. Moreover, looking to the future, the Congressman is pushing for an additional $4.5 million in the 2025 federal budget. This prospective funding is aimed at undisclosed safety and accessibility improvements at the airport.

Investment in local infrastructure such as Bishop International serves dual purposes; not only does it enhance regional transport capacity but, as mentioned by Mid Michigan Now, it also creates job opportunities that pay well. "By upgrading our local airports, we can connect Michigan families to the rest of the world and ensure our small businesses can ship their products around the globe," Kildee remarked, recognizing the broader economic implications. Bishop Airport Chief Executive Officer, Nino Sapone, also echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that the airport is instrumental in economic growth within Michigan's 8th District and beyond.
